Artist Statement

Interior Still Lifes by The Visual Aye is a collection of digitally rendered interior scenes that reflect the evolving ideals of 21st-century interior design. Characterised by clean lines, tactile materiality, graphical forms, and a thoughtful approach to spatial reuse, these works mark a departure from the modernist reliance on photography, embracing the innovative potential of digital rendering as a primary medium of expression.

Drawing inspiration from the structured arrangements and light-driven compositions of Dutch genre paintings, the works employ single light sources, often from an architectural fenestration, to shape atmosphere and focus. Curated objects, including fruit and flowers, evoke classical motifs while aligning with contemporary design sensibilities. Muted colour palettes enhance the harmony between light and materials, creating cohesion across the collection.

Each composition is meticulously crafted using advanced 3D modelling and rendering techniques, prioritising spatial relationships and curated details. These works present digital rendering as a dominant medium for articulating the aesthetics and ideals of contemporary interiors. By revisiting pre-photographic traditions where design ideals were artistically represented, this collection bridges historical methodologies and contemporary digital practices. The result is a series of works that challenge established notions of how interiors are conceived and experienced while reflecting the evolving tools and expectations of design today. Notably, no artificial intelligence was employed in the creation of these renderings, ensuring each piece remains an authentic expression of the artist’s expertise and intent.
